SOUTHWEST MIAMI-DADE, FLA. (WSVN) - Miami-Dade Police have located a 12-year-old boy with autism, hours after he went missing in Southwest Miami-Dade, Monday morning.
According to police, Cory Binelo was reported missing from a Navarro Discount Pharmacy located at Southwest 97th Avenue and Coral Way, at around 9:30 a.m.
7Skyforce HD hovered above the shopping center as police taped off the area and gathered evidence.
People in the area assisted in the search, including a concerned mother who also has a child with autism. “My child doesn’t talk, so if he’s lost, he can’t say, ‘Can you help me? I don’t know where I am,'” said Emilen Castrillo. “It really is very difficult.”
Castrillo said parents of children with autism need to be especially vigilant. “They don’t have a sense of danger, so if they want to cross the street, they’re just gonna go across the street without even thinking if there’s a car coming,” she said.
Authorities brought in K-9s as they scoured the area in search of the boy. At around 2:30 p.m., they found Cory at the Royal Gate Shopping Center, located at 27940 South Dixie Highway.
