VIRGINIA KEY, FLA. (WSVN) - A Florida manatee was released to sea after undergoing treatment at the Miami Seaquarium.

The marine mammal, named Pocket, returned to natural waters, Wednesday, after undergoing intense medical treatment and rehabilitation.

The 2-year-old manatee was rescued from Stuart in May of 2015 after suffering deep cuts from a boat’s propellers. The injuries left him with pyothorax, an infection in the chest cavity.

Pocket received continuous medical treatment and is now very active, as well as a hearty eater. He is well on his way now to join his fellow gentle giants in the wild.
