MIAMI (WSVN) - City of Miami Police are aiming to build stronger bonds with a new virtual neighborhood watch.
The department is partnering with “NextDoor,” a private social network for neighborhoods. Through this program, residents will have a chance to create private neighborhood websites that share public safety issues, community events, local services and even lost pets.
Miami Police Chief Rodolfo Llanes said the program is a win-win for the community and local law enforcement. “It creates a stronger community amongst the neighbors, and that [involves] us injecting ourselves into that conversation,” he said. “It also helps us to give out information and receive information on a real time basis that we can use to solve crimes and to help neighbors.”
Each Miami neighborhood will receive its own website, accessible only to residents of that neighborhood.
