MIAMI INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT, FLA. (WSVN) - With Mother’s Day approaching, Miami International Airport is seeing a massive influx of flower shipments, many of which are undergoing careful inspection by U.S. Customs and Border Protection agriculture specialists.

The flowers, arriving from countries like Colombia and Ecuador, are being checked for pests and diseases before being distributed across the United States.

“More than 90 percent of flowers that enter into the US, enter in through MIA, it’s something we’re very proud of. So we’re not only having a regional impact but a national impact,” said Ralph Cutie, Director and CEO of Miami International Airport.

The floral surge highlights MIA’s role in holiday imports, especially during one of the busiest weekends for flower sales.
