MIAMI (WSVN) - Authorities have arrested 48-year-old Alexander Travieso, who is accused of a double shooting in Miami that left a mother and daughter dead in their apartment.

The shooting occurred at Yolanda Villas Condo, located at 801 NW 47th Ave., Wednesday.

Inside a unit, two women were confirmed dead in the shooting: 50-year-old Irisbel Cartalla and her 22-year-old daughter, Isbelsy Olivera.

“The suspect somehow was able to ambush that mother and daughter and they were found deceased inside of their apartment,” said Miami Police Officer Kiara Delva.

The suspect, identified as the ex-boyfriend of the daughter, fled the scene but later surrendered to police.

“The suspect fled in an unknown vehicle and arrived to West Miami Police Department, where he confessed and stated that he just shot and killed those two individuals,” Delva said.

Neighbors expressed shock at the tragic news.

“I did know the mom, very nice lady, she was always very happy, very nice lady,” Jackie Granda said. “It’s unfortunate this happened.”

“Yeah, it’s pretty sad,” said another neighbor. “I mean, it’s crazy. Supposed to be in a good area.”

On Wednesday afternoon, 7News cameras captured several individuals outside the apartment, visibly distraught and consoling each other.

It remains unclear whether they were family members or friends of the victims.

While an investigation into the shooting is underway, police credited a witness who saw the shooting.

“They were able to relay that information to our detectives,” Delva said.
