MIAMI INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT, FLA. (WSVN) - The mother of a little boy who was taken by his father and grandmother has been finally reunited with her son at Miami International Airport.
Jorge “Jojo” Morales flew back home Tuesday night to meet with his mother, Yanet Leal Concepcion, after being separated for the past two months.
An emotional reunion was documented, as many gathered at Miami International Airport to witness the homecoming.
His first day back home was filled with lots of hugs and toys, lots of laughs with friends and lots of dancing the worries away.
“My arms are tired because I’m like carrying him everywhere, and he’s so heavy and can’t let him go,” said Concepcion. “He’s woken up a couple times to make sure we’re there, and he touches, and then he goes back to sleep. Yeah, he did that last night three times, and then he touched me and went back to sleep.”
Concepcion said the past two months have been a nightmare ever since his father picked him up for a scheduled visit and never returned.
But that nightmare ended when a stranger thousands of miles away in Canada, recognized JoJo at a Walmart and called it in.
“It was very emotional, and I called her my angel,” said Concepcion.
Jojo’s father and grandmother have, meanwhile, been arrested.
Now his mother is just focused on moving forward.
“It was terrible, but I forgot. Every time when I see his smile I forget. I’m like, ‘Am I dreaming?’ because I had the same dream. I’ve had it, and it was two days before the news, and it was the same thing: he came running just the way that he did, and I hugged him, and I could smell him in that dream,” said Concepcion.
It’s hard for the 6-year-old to truly understand what happened, but his mom says it’s better that way.
“Autism can be such a blessing sometimes that he is living in his own world. He thinks he was trying to find me because he went on vacation, and it was a long vacation, and he’s just happy to be over with the vacation,” said Concepcion.
Since JoJo had missed Halloween, Concepcion told 7News they will be recreating the holiday for him to enjoy.
Jojo said he wants to be a police officer as his costume due to that fact that he was surrounded by them so much these last few days.
The family also was with the FBI Wednesday for an evaluation, which Concepcion said was a blessing because, since he has autism, he has been handling the situation better than they imagined.
