MIAMI GARDENS, FLA. (WSVN) - An investigation is underway after, police said, a young man was shot and killed in the parking lot of a strip mall in Miami Gardens.

Miami Gardens Police and Miami-Dade Fire Rescue units responded to the shopping plaza, near Northwest 27th Avenue and 183rd Street, Thursday afternoon.

7Skyforce hovered above the scene where the victim was inside an SUV that crashed into a red car.

According to Miami Gardens Police, they received a call at around 2:07 p.m, regarding shots that were fired. Once they arrived at the scene, they found the victim inside a dark SUV suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

Police said the victim appeared to be leaving a parking spot when two subjects fired multiple shots at him. The victim was mortally wounded and crashed their vehicle into a parked car.

“Two suspects approached him and began shooting,” said Miami Gardens Police Officer Diana Gourgue. “The suspects then fled in a white sedan in an unknown direction.”

7News cameras captured the victim’s black BMW riddled with bullet holes.

A woman who works nearby said she heard the gunfire and saw the chaos that ensued.

“We just heard a bunch of gunshots, so me and my manager came outside to see what was going on,” said the witness, who asked not to be identified or show her face on camera. “People running through the parking lot and everybody is just trying to get cover. We just heard probably over 40, 50 shots.”

MDFR attempted to treat the victim, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police shut down the parking lot of the strip mall for hours as they searched for any clues that would lead them to the shooter. They continue searching for the subjects who left the scene in a white sedan.

The victim’s BMW was towed away as evidence, and the parking lot later reopened.

The woman who works nearby said she’s shocked by the senseless violence.

“It was kind of tragic, ’cause you’re just in here working; it’s broad daylight,” she said. “You weren’t thinking nobody is going to get shot up in the middle of a busy parking lot.”

Police have not identified the victim, as they continue to investigate.
