NORTHWEST MIAMI-DADE, FLA. (WSVN) - A chaotic crash in Northwest Miami-Dade involving two electric scooters led to a fight between the riders that took a deadly turn, when deputies said, one of them shot and killed the other, then took off accompanied by a child.
Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office and Fire Rescue units responded to the scene of the shooting along Northwest 22nd Court, near 75th Street, just after 5 p.m. on Sunday.
“We heard, like, gunshots, and we thought that there were fireworks,” said an area resident.
“The two individuals were coming at opposite sides of the intersection when they met in the middle and collided,” said MDSO Deputy Daniel Castillo.
The ensuing altercation escalated until the subject pulled out a firearm and pulled the trigger, fatally striking the other rider, authorities said..
The shooter took off on his scooter. Detectives later confirmed that “a child was with the subject at the time of the incident, and the subject fled with the child.”
Investigators scoured the block as they looked for anything that could lead them to the shooter but were unable to locate the perpetrator.
Cameras later captured the victim’s body covered by a yellow tarp, as well as evidence markers surrounding his scooter, as detectives analyzed the crime scene.
“We urge the community, please, this is an armed individual that is at large. If anybody has camera footage that lives in the nearby area, please give us a call,” said Castillo.
