DORAL, FLA. (WSVN) - A man is dead, and a woman is in critical condition following a stabbing and self-inflicted shooting at the Miami International Mall in Doral, according to police.

Sweetwater and Doral Police were seen on video responding to the incident on Tuesday.

According to Doral Police, the woman was stabbed multiple times by a man had a relationship with before shooting himself.

“There was a shooting call here. They did evacuate areas of the food court,” said 7Skyforce’s Ralph Rayburn.

He was pronounced dead at the scene, while the woman was transported to HCA Florida Kendall Hospital in critical condition.

“Upon their arrival, they were able to observe a female victim who has sustained multiple stab wounds,” said Doral Police Department Chief Edwin Lopez. “The male, that’s deceased on the scene, was a business owner of the restaurant, the female victim, who is believed to be either in a relationship with the deceased at some point in time, was also employed.”

Authorities have not said which restaurant the man owned at the time, although they say it was in the mall’s food court.

They did state that the violent attack also took place in the back of the kitchen.

“We assume that it’s a domestic-related incident,” said Lopez.

The food court area was evacuated as officials investigated the incident.

The incident left bystanders shocked and terrified. Witnesses said they heard arguing between two people before the incident happened.

One man spoke of his experience in Spanish, saying he didn’t hear the gunshot, but saw people running.

Now, detectives are hoping that others in possible domestic relationships will reach out before it’s too late.

“It is a very tragic event, and our hearts and prayers go out to the families affected of what happened today,” said Luis Sierra of the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office. “Do not be scared. We’re here to help you, and we have a lot of resources to help you.”

As of Wednesday afternoon, the victim remained in the hospital as she fights for her life.

The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office is taking over the investigation, which remains ongoing.
