NORTH MIAMI, FLA. (WSVN) - A shooting at an apartment complex in North Miami set of a chaotic chain reaction of events, leading to two men jumping out of windows, sending a man to then hospital and likely causing a water pipe to burst.

7News cameras captured North Miami Police officers along the 14000 block of Biscayne Boulevard with police and fire rescue vehicles at the scene after witnesses reported hearing gunshots, just after midnight on Sunday.

“It was, like, a little bit shocking, because I didn’t know if I should leave the apartment or hide or just like go to sleep and ignore it, but it was like a little scary,” said resident Diana Sovalvarro

A resident recorded cellphone video that captures the sound of several gunshots, followed by two men jumping from a broken window.

“I just heard the gunshots, and then like a glass shatter, and then a lot of water started coming down, and then we heard the alarm going on,” said Sovalvarro.

The footage shows a man jumping from a window, then a second man struggling through broken blinds before jumping.

The two ran away.

Neighbors believe a water pipe of some kind may have been hit in the chaos and that the water damage forced out residents.

Some residents remained locked out of their apartments as of late Sunday afternoon.

A man who asked not to be identified or show his face on camera said he slept in his truck all night.

“No, sir, I’ve never been stuck outside my apartment for seven hours plus,” he said. “And the water rushed in, it was about maybe like, like an inch and a half, two inches of water. It happened like a movie.”

Adding to this real-life scene that felt like a movie, dollar bills were seen strewn across the grass near a window area where a bloodied curtain hangs from.

Police said one person is recovering from gunshot wounds at the hospital. Their condition is unknown.

“It was scary, but I also want to go sleep,” Sovalvarro said shortly after the incident. “It’s too late to be out here.”

Neighbors shared several cellphone videos of what looks like three different people in police custody, but it is unclear what connection, if any, they have to this incident.

Monday morning, parts of the apartment building remained cordoned off by crime scene tape, as detectives continue to investigate this shooting.

“I would like to know what’s going on, because they still have the yellow tape up, and there’s still police actively investigating,” said a woman who lives in the building. “We have no information on how to keep ourselves safe and secure with this type of activity going on.”

A biohazard van drove into the complex, possibly related to what went down over the weekend.

“It makes me very scared because. We [secured] our door with our bike and a cooler, just to give ourselves some time. We stay at a studio,” said the woman who lives in the building.

7News has reached out to North Miami Police for an update on the victim’s condition and to learn whether they arrested any of the people who were taken into custody and how they may be connected to this incident.
