MIAMI GARDENS, FLA. (WSVN) - A South Florida family is making a desperate push by increasing their reward to find a teenager’s killer.

“I need closure, his father need closure. His siblings need closure,” said Tina Hinds, Rodney Hinds Jr.’s mother.

The family of a teen killed three years ago at a gas station is pleading for help in this cold case.

“He was a very kind boy,” Tina said “He had a lot of friends. Rodney never troubled anyone. He didn’t have a criminal record. There’s no reason why anyone would do this to my son.”

In October of 2019, 17-year-old Hinds Jr. picked up snacks from a Shell gas station in Miami Gardens while his friends filled the car with fuel.

As he returned to the car, someone approached him and opened fire, killing Rodney.

“You have a young 17-year-old kid that had a bright future ahead of him that lost his life for no reason,” Rodney Hinds Sr. said.”

The family is increasing the Crimestoppers reward to $25,000 for information about this murder.

“Someone out there knows something,” said Adam Finkle, the family’s attorney. “It’s been three years since he called his father on his way home from school. It’s been three years since he hugged his mother.”

Rodney’s parents received $2 million in a wrongful death lawsuit against the gas station, but they said what they really want is the killer behind bars.

“He was very special to me, and they took that away from me, and I need justice. I need closure,” Tina said
