MIAMI (WSVN) - A man who had barricaded himself in a Miami home for hours has surrendered to police.
Police had closed off an area on the 1400 block of Northwest 52nd Street, Friday morning.
Miami Police were called to the location on Thursday, around 8:30 p.m., in regards to a man who had made threats to harm himself.
Two family members inside the home said the man was armed with a long rifle and a gun; the man also made threats to police officers.
SWAT officers on the scene negotiated with him for hours.
“We have learned that the subject is armed with a long rifle, and it’s believed that he also has a handgun throughout the duration of the negotiation. We have learned that our SWAT officers have in fact seen [both weapons] at the same time,” said officer Kiara Delva, spokesperson for the Miami Police Department.
Around 7 a.m., the man peacefully surrendered, which is what all were hoping for.
He is now in custody, and it remains unclear if he will face any charges.
This incident happened only two days after another man barricaded himself in a Miami apartment complex where he was found dead hours later.
Police said during the holiday season, emotions run high for several people.
