At least five people were injured in a multi-vehicle crash on the Florida Turnpike in Southwest Miami-Dade that led to multiple lane closures, officials said.

Florida Highway Patrol and Miami-Dade Fire Rescue units responded to the scene of the wreck near Southwest 56th Street, at around 9:45 p.m., Sunday.

According to FHP, a black Honda sedan and a gray Kia SUV were involved in a crash. As a result, the KIA was immoveable, blocking the roadway.

A passing motorist stopped to assist the driver of the Honda.

That’s when an oncoming black BMW failed to stop and collied into the KIA SUV and the motorist that stopped to render aid.

Fire rescue officials treated at least five people.

FHP said the driver of the Honda and the motorist were transported to Kendall Regional in critical condition.

Just after 11 p.m., traffic cameras showed three southbound lanes had reopened near Southwest 56th Street.
