MIAMI (WSVN) - A man and a woman who were involved in a reported shooting were arrested following a high-speed pursuit that ended in a rollover crash in Miami, police said, leading to the hours-long closure of busy Biscayne Boulevard during rush hour.
According to Miami Police, their Tactical Robbery unit officers tagged the suspected vehicle, a white Audi SUV, as it drove on Biscayne Boulevard, Wednesday afternoon.
Detectives believe the Audi was involved in a prior shooting in Palm Beach County.
Police first attempted to stop the vehicle at 79th Street and Biscayne Boulevard when the suspected vehicle crashed into an innocent person’s car and took off.
The Audi only made it three blocks before it crashed at the intersection with 82nd Street.
“We tried the [PIT] maneuver again and crashed against one of our vehicles, causing a chain reaction where a total of five vehicles were involved,” said Miami Police Officer Michael Vega.
Witnesses said they heard a big boom and saw the crash.
“I seen a whole big police presence. I seen a guy jumping out of a car,” said Jamal Diab.
“I was standing by the window talking to one of my customers, we hear like a big crash. Next thing, we turn our face, see a car that flipped, take off in the middle of the street, cops surround the car,” said Ansschabia.
The Audi came to a spinning stop, while one of the undercover police cars, a black sedan belonging to a Miami Police officer, came to a crashing halt on its side.
The two subjects were ultimately taken into custody shortly after. Police said they are wanted in connection to the Palm Beach County shooting.
The suspects were identified as 32-year-old Ariadne Rodriguez and 35-year-old Jonathan Lozano. New details revealed that Lozano is a known drug dealer in Palm Beach County and the car that they were in was involved in the shooting they’re wanted in connection to.
Cellphone video taken by a bystander shows officers apprehending one of the subjects involved.
Another cellphone footage shows the moment the man in the passenger seat jumped out the window as officers, with guns out, surrounded the vehicle and arrested him and the woman who was the driver.
When asked what was his first reaction when he saw the crash, Ansschabia, who works at a nearby cellphone repair shop located on the intersection with 82nd Street, said he “ran to the back.”
The crash closed Biscayne Boulevard between 79th and 82nd streets for over three hours, causing a traffic headache for those traveling through the area. The roadways reopened just before 5:30 p.m.
Miami Fire Rescue responded but did not transport any of the officers. No one was seriously hurt.
The vehicles involved have since been towed away from the scene.
