MIAMI BEACH, FLA. (WSVN) - Suspects inside a vehicle were wanted for a crime after a hot pursuit took place through the streets of Port St. Lucie. The men are accused of robbing a mail carrier on Miami Beach.
The cross-county getaway would end with both of the suspects getting caught and cuffed.
“They’re doing a felony stop right now,” said an officer. “Driver’s out of the vehicle.”
Police chopper footage captured the take-down of the suspected Miami Beach crooks in St. Lucie County.
“One in custody,” an officer.
The two were arrested Sunday after their vehicle was identified as the one officers were looking for, which was connected to a strong-arm robbery of a postal worker in Miami Beach on Saturday.
7News was told that the pair struck there.
According to sources with knowledge of the investigation, they told 7News that the initial crime happened near Drexel and 16th Street, close to the Lincoln Road Mall. A postwoman was said to be the victim when she was robbed of her master key.
Recently, thieves across the country have been after arrow keys, which open mail and collections boxes. Several arrests have been made this year for thefts of arrow keys statewide.
In St. Lucie County on Sunday, the latest problem was solved after one of the suspect’s bailed out of the passenger side of the vehicle, but was eventually caught by officers.
“He’s on foot, right there,” said an officer.
“I got him, I got him,” said another officer.
But his alleged partner took a little more effort to capture.
The suspect eventually got down and was arrested after officers were in front of a home with their guns drawn, aided by those inside a chopper that was high above.
Jalen Dennis Elliot and Bernard J. Davis, both 19, were charged with fleeing and eluding police. They are in jail on on a federal hold for the alleged arrow key caper.
The Miami division of the U.S Postal Inspection Service told 7News Monday night, “We are actively working this investigation jointly with the St. Lucie County SO, Miami Beach PD and the U.S Attorney’s Office.”
Port St. Lucie Police and the Florida Highway Patrol were also involved in this case. The pair are expected to face federal charges as well.
