NORTHWEST MIAMI-DADE, FLA. (WSVN) - One person was hospitalized after an officer fired their weapon.
Miami-Dade Police and Miami-Dade Fire Rescue arrived at the scene at 310 NW 95th St., after hearing reports of shots being fire, Friday afternoon.
According to police, the suspect had a gun with him. It is unclear if the suspect fired his weapon at police.
“When the officers arrived, they identified a subject matching the description, there was a confrontation that ensued, the subject pulled out a firearm and officers were forced to discharge,” said MDPD Public Information Officer Angel Rodriguez.
7Skyforce hovered over the scene where the shooting took place near an industrial area.
According to MDFR, the suspect was transported to the hospital as a trauma alert.
7News camera captured one person on a gurney as they arrived at Jackson Memorial Hospital with officers.
The suspect is in critical condition.
“It appears that in this particular case, the first and foremost, the safety and well being of everyone in the community is our priority, and of course the officers have to make sure they are safe as well while they are trying to do their job to protect this community,” Rodriguez said.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the shooting.
