MIAMI BEACH, FLA. (WSVN) - Miami Beach is preparing for potential flooding concerns in the wake of Hurricane Matthew.

Officials worked Wednesday to ensure that pumping stations in the area are prepared for the storm.

The pumping stations function through water flowing out of the streets and into a designated area and then back out into the ocean. If the stations lose power, back up generators will be present to keep them running.

About 20 portable generators are expected to come into the city, according to a city engineer.

Flooding concerns have also been a problem for Miami Beach residents in times of heavy rain.
