MIAMI BEACH, FLA. (WSVN) - Miami Beach Police have arrested a man who is accused of leaving his twin children alone for several hours.
According to police, 34-year-old Nathan Mellema was arrested after, they said, his 3-year-old twin children were found wandering around the hallways of the Flamingo Apartment Building, in Miami Beach.
Police said witnesses discovered the children walking around the seventh floor of the building.
When police arrived, they said, Mellema eventually came out of an elevator and identified the children as his own. Police said they told him he went to get a few drinks and left the children unattended for approximately two and a half hours.
Police also said Mellema had bloodshot eyes, slurred speech and smelled of alcohol. The twins were taken into the custody of the Department of Children and Families.
