MIAMI BEACH, FLA. (WSVN) - Family and friends set up a touching tribute after a teen loses his life while riding his bicycle.

The teen’s mother was seen weeping as she endured the pain of losing her son. Hundreds of people, including their family, friends and teachers attended the candlelight vigil to pray and pay their respects to 14-year-old Rudra Bhatt.

Bhatt was riding his bicycle Saturday morning when he was hit by a pickup truck on Miami Beach.

“Even right now, we are not feeling. We think maybe Rudra will come, that he will knock the door, the door will open and he will come with the bike,” said the victim’s father, Dakshesh Bhatt, “and still we are hoping that he will come back.”

The teen’s mother asked for prayers. “I have nothing to say, just pray for my son,” said Madhavi Bhatt. “Just pray for my son.”

Bhatt’s teacher said a few words and called him a stellar student. “I know I’m not the only one of his teachers to recognize his special light and goodness he brought to the classroom,” she said, “always smiling, always upbeat, always eager to help when he wasn’t even asked.”

The vigil was held at Fisher Park along Alton Road and 51st Street on Monday, not far away from where the crash occurred.

The driver of the Dodge truck stayed on the scene and is cooperating with police. Detectives call this a tragic accident and do not expect to file any criminal charges.
