MARGATE, FLA. (WSVN) - Members of the Margate Police Department came together to host their annual Cops and Kids event, Saturday.

The program provided 130 children with $100 to shop at Wal-Mart on Atlantic Avenue.

Officer said the real treat was seeing the holiday spirit on the kids’ faces. “You see how happy they are, you see the kindness, you see the generosity,” said Margate Police Sgt. Al Banatte. “A majority of these kids don’t even get gifts for themselves; they’re shopping for family members. They want to get something for their brother, their sister, their mom, so it’s just a really good thing to be a part of.”

The department also credited the Holiday Springs Condominium Association for donating more than $7,000 to make the event possible.
