Miami Seaquarium released a manatee they named “Jellybean” in the waters of Jupiter, Tuesday.

The manatee was rescued from waters near Boynton Beach the year before, after it appeared to have been struck by a boat.

After several rounds of rehabilitation, the 2-year-old manatee was ready to go back to his natural habitat.

“He was what we like to call a sinker,” said Animal Care Supervisor Jessica Shiffhauer, “so he had puss in his body cavity, so it was very hard for him to come to the surface and take breaths, and he also had very bad wounds to his side. He’s all healed up and ready to go.”

Jellybean is about 7 feet long and more than 500 pounds.
