LAUDERDALE LAKES, FLA. (WSVN) - The busy parking lot of a Wal-Mart in Lauderdale Lakes turned into a crime scene after, authorities said, a man was fatally shot, Sunday afternoon.

Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the scene of the shooting, outside the Wal-Mart Supercenter off West Commercial Boulevard and State Road 441, at around 2:15 p.m.

Monday morning, homicide detectives identified the victim as 50-year-old Kennedy Lee.

Witness Orga Espady said Lee was shot in the head. “I had never seen nothing like that. It was really horrifying,” he said.

Lee was transported as a trauma alert to Broward Health Medical Center. Officials said he succumbed to his injuries at around 3 p.m.

“Everybody was crying and stuff,” said Espady.

Homicide and crime scene detectives interviewed witnesses and searched for clues as they continued to investigate.

People simply buying groceries found themselves in the aftermath of the deadly shooting. “I wasn’t expecting anything at this Wal-Mart,” said area resident James Walker. “Very surprising, very shocking.”

Officials said Lee’s relationship to the shooter is unknown at this time. “We’re not sure why this man was shot. We’re not sure if they had an altercation, or if they even knew each other,” said BSO spokesperson Gina Carter. “Right now, it really is a bit of a mystery, and detectives are working hard to unravel it.”

It is unclear whether there is surveillance video of the shooting.

No one has been apprehended.
