MIAMI (WSVN) - Police have arrested a man, Wednesday, in the murder of 16-year-old Damien Ramirez.

Ramirez was shot multiple times and killed in Miami on Nov. 23. Police arrested 21-year-old Richard Thompson for his alleged involvement in the shooting. “We’re going to celebrate his life,” said Ramirez’s mother, Lissette Lantigua. “He’s gone, but he will always be with us. I’ll always remember that smile he always kept and the good heart he had.”

Thompson went before a judge Wednesday morning and faces a first-degree murder charge, as well as possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Police found a shotgun at Thompson’s home, where they arrested him.

After sustaining multiple gunshot wounds on the corner of Northwest 17th Avenue and 31st Street, Ramirez died. According to officials, Ramirez and a friend were out getting food from a nearby McDonald’s.

“It’s so sad that this happened to such a young life,” said family friend Elsie Figueroa.
