A Florida man has been arrested in connection to a fire-bombing of Shorty’s Café in Miami Gardens, according to officials.
Adrian Kelvin Bacon, was arrested Wednesday afternoon, after officials say he was involved in a fire that cost thousands in damage to a small business on Dec. 24, 2014.
The restaurant was located at 4114 NW 167 Street in Miami Gardens.
“We found two separate fires. At the base of each fire was a beer bottle that was burned up with a piece of paper or cloth coming out of the mouth of it,” Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Ray Gadallah told 7News in 2014.
Family members said around closing time, four to five men were trying to make a drug deal in front of the business, leading to an altercation and physical scuffle. Four hours later, the fire broke out. “I guess somebody tried to put the place on fire and we’re here trying to figure out what’s going on,” said Zayda Bogarin, a relative of the owner.
“It’s very sad that somebody would do something like that to a new a little restaurant with a good environment, everyone was having fun.” The cafeteria owner’s little sister said, “I feel sad, because everybody that worked here, they worked hard and they did their best.” Arson investigators said the cafeteria was a total loss.
Bacon is being charged with Federal Arson and Explosive violations, according to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
