A loggerhead sea turtle was released back into the wild on World Sea Turtle Day.
The turtle, named Optimus, was let go into the ocean at Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park, Thursday. “They named her Optimus because she had such severe injuries, and she was fighting to survive,” said Assistant Park Manager Lu Dodson, “so she’s Optimus, the highest that can be because she worked so hard to survive.”
Optimus was rescued near Coconut Grove in April of 2015, after she lost the use of her eye. She just finished receiving all the care she needed at Miami Seaquarium.
Her eyeball has since been reattached. However, she is not able to see out of it.
