MIAMI (WSVN) - Two South Florida foundations hosted a back to school giveaway.

The Kiwanis Club of Little Havana and the Marlins Foundation come together for the distribution.

The week-long event ended Monday at Lenora B. Smith Elementary and provided new school supplies to hundreds of kids.

“The students come, and the students receive school supplies,” said school principal Shawntai Dalton. “They receive a book bag, and it’s a great welcome to us and a great asset to our school.”

The president of Kiwanis Club of Little Havana, Jerry Fernandez understands how important the supplies are for the students. “These are kids, all these kids from these areas have difficulties,” he said. “Their parents make ends meet. It’s something that we can help them out with, make their old school supplies go away. They get great school supplies to start the new year fresh with good supplies.”

This annual program aims to excite and prepare students for the new school year.
