MIAMI (WSVN) - A homeless man has been arrested after he was accused of attacking an elderly man and causing him injuries that left him brain dead.
According to an arrest affidavit, 38-year-old Evans Celestin faces charges of battery on a person 65 or older, felony battery and drug possession charges after he attacked a 71-year-old man.
The report states a witness said Celestin came from across the street and started screaming obscenities at him, after he took Celestin’s photo to show police. The witness said he sees Celestin regularly in downtown Miami asking for money and causing disturbances.
The report then said Celestin walked around and pushed the man to the ground, who was with his partner, causing him to hit his head and start bleeding from his ears.
The report said the elderly man’s partner confirmed the story and called 911. Fire Rescue responded to the scene and transported the victim to the hospital.
During a court hearing, it was stated the victim is in critical condition and has no brain activity.
Celestin was arrested and his bond was set at $32,000.
