HOMESTEAD, FLA. (WSVN) - A high school senior headed to serve in the U.S. Marines was surprised with an early graduation after it was discovered he was going to miss the scheduled graduation.

Homestead High School senior Jainiel Price sported a smile on his face as he walked on stage before friends and family, Friday. Price and his classmates did a practice run-through ceremony, but for Price, it was the real thing. “I’m very appreciative, I get to see him graduate now,” Price’s mother, Chunkier Price said.

Price’s family was in the audience. “I’m proud because it’s always been his dream,” said Price’s younger brother, Ian Joyner.

The family recently learned Price will be deploying for training camp in South Carolina — one day before his class graduates, so he was going to miss it.

“We wanted to honor him and his family for their commitment to our country and freedom and commitment he’ll be displaying,” said Homestead Principal Guillermo A. Munoz.

Price was grateful to finally be done with high school and for his school for putting everything together. “Nothing but tears of joy. It’s been a long road,” he said. “I felt the utmost gratitude for them putting this all together, doing everything he could to get this done.”

Price leaves for the 13-week training camp Monday.
