NORTHWEST MIAMI-DADE, FLA. (WSVN) - The South Florida community said their final farewells to a longtime community activist, the Rev. Willie Sims.

Family, friends and members of the community gathered at The New Birth Baptist Church Cathedral of Faith International in Northwest Miami-Dade for Sims’ funeral.

The 68-year-old worked for Miami-Dade County for more than two decades, serving as both the Director of the Community Relations and the Black Affairs Advisory Boards.

He was also an associate pastor at Peaceful Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Miami.

Sims died earlier in September, after being hospitalized with unspecified health issues.
