FORT LAUDERDALE, FLA. (WSVN) - Fort Lauderdale’s police chief is resigning to join the Broward Sheriff’s Office.

Fort Lauderdale Police Chief Frank Adderley announced his resignation, Wednesday. He said he will soon take a colonial position with the Broward Sheriff’s Office to take charge of community affairs.

Adderley has been with Fort Lauderdale PD since 1980. He was the first African-American promoted to the major ranks to assistant chief and then chief of police in 2008.

He made the big announcement during a meeting with 200 colleagues.
