FORT LAUDERDALE, FLA. (WSVN) - An FBI child sex sting landed a South Florida lifeguard behind bars, last week.

Agents said 22-year-old Joshua Asseraf showed up at a Broward County hotel to meet who he thought was a 9-year-old girl for sex, Aug. 29. However, he was communicating with an undercover investigator with the FBI’s Child Exploitation Task Force.

Asseraf was taken into custody when he showed up for the meeting.

The Sunrise resident worked at the City of Fort Lauderdale’s Aquatic Center, located just south of Las Olas Boulevard. He was fired on Friday.

Officials said there are no allegations of improper behavior at the aquatic complex, but prosecutors in federal court, on Friday, said a search of Assaref’s cellphone revealed what they believe were at least three attempts to seek sexual encounters with children.
