OCHOPEE, Fla. (WSVN) — Firefighters are finally beginning to get a handle on a massive brush fire in Collier County.

Officials on Tuesday said a thunderstorm on Monday dropped helpful rain on the southern portion of the fire, so it is now 53% contained.

However, officials said, no rain fell on the northern part of the blaze, which is burning close to Interstate 75 near Naples.

As of Tuesday afternoon, the fire has burned 35,334 acres.

Crews have been fighting the fire by ground and air for more than a week.
