MIAMI BEACH, FLA. (WSVN) - The largest comic convention in South Florida kicked off in Miami Beach, Friday.

This Fourth of July weekend, it will be perfectly normal to see Batman, a Power Ranger and Darth Vader all walking down the street together.

7News spent some time with the fans. “It’s a really fun place to be,” said one attendee. “There’s a lot of cool stuff to do here with different movie characters and actors.”

Now it its 11th year, the event is taking place at the Miami Beach Convention Center. Organizers expect more than 60,000 people to attend the event — a lot of them arriving in costume. “For me, cosplay is kind of about the art, so it’s more like an artistic expression,” said another attendee.

Dressing up is not mandatory, but if one does, you can compete in the costume contest, Saturday night. The winner walks away with $1,500, and a lifetime pass to all Supercon events.

Comic books and one-of-a-kind collectibles will also be for sale, and fans can line up to take a photo with the stars of “Deadpool,” “Star Wars,” “The Walking Dead,” “Doctor Who” and WWE Hall of Famers. “I’m out here having fun, meeting people, signing autographs and doing it Godfather-style,” said professional wrestler The Godfather.

“You should rush down to Supercon, come meet The Animal, come meet some of the other wrestlers that are here,” said wrestler Road Warrior Animal. Diamond Dallas Page, The Godfather, Demolition, Mick Foley, and you know what it’ll be. What a rush!”

Supercon runs until Independence Day on Monday.
