MIAMI (WSVN) - Florida officials announced Friday the lifting of the five-year waiting period for immigrant children to receive health insurance.

The announcement was made during an enrollment drive at The Children’s Trust training room in Miami.

“This means they’ll finally be able to see a doctor when they need to,” James Haj, President of The Children’s Trust, said. “They’ll receive the care that they deserve, and they will stay healthy, and stay on the path that leads to becoming a contributor to our community.”

Children who were previously denied coverage because of the five-year waiting period can also reapply.
