WINTER HAVEN, Fla. (AP) — A Winter Haven police detective’s quick actions are being credited for stopping a carjacking.

According to a news release, Detective Aida Roias was sitting in her unmarked police car in a Walgreens parking lot on Thursday evening when she saw a man struggling with an older man outside a nearby vehicle.

Roias sounded her siren and jumped out of her car. The release says the detective asked 26-year-old Jose Noel Martinez what was going on. That’s when 74-year-old Larry McClure told her Martinez had grabbed his hand as he started unlocking his vehicle and demanded his keys.

Martinez was arrested and charged with one count of carjacking without a firearm.

Records don’t say whether he’s hired a lawyer.
