FORT LAUDERDALE-HOLLYWOOD INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT, FLA. (WSVN) - Travelers have been facing days of travel trouble at South Florida airports.

“Very, very frustrating,” said Kelsey McBride, who is traveling to North Carolina.

“And now they just said we’re going to be delayed again,” said Scott Way, who is traveling to Michigan.

Frustrated flyers spent the weekend waiting, after severe weather led to canceled and delayed flights at South Florida airports.

“I had to get a whole other flight, which was an extra $360,” said McBride.

“There was like, no option but to just spend another arm and a leg staying here,” said Alyssa Buck, who is traveling to New York.

Hundreds were left stranded at both Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport and Miami International Airport. Many are back at the airport Monday, trying to get home on another plane after their flights were cancelled over the weekend.

“Got here bright and early Saturday morning. Figured we get out and postponed us, postponed us, and finally they canceled us,” said Way.

Jon and Sarah Halcovage, who are traveling to Pennsylvania, shared a video with 7News of the long lines for Spirit Airlines.

“It seemed like you kinda had to fend for yourself,” said Jon.

The couple, who were in town for a wedding, were delayed so many times, they decided to rent a car and drive home to Philadelphia.

“We contacted so many airlines, we looked at the Amtrak train. Like, nobody really helped us,” said Sarah.

Airlines blamed inclement weather in part of the state for the weekend congestion. FLL officials said it was a combination of that and operational issues.

Travelers were advised to check with their airline before heading to the airport.

So far, MIA had 20 cancelled flights, while FLL had 28.
