MIRAMAR, FLA. (WSVN) - A South Florida family is making a painful plea in the hopes of catching the person or persons who killed their loved one outside his home in August.

The family of the victim, 24-year-old Gavin Bromfield, said they don’t know why the confrontation ensued and how long it lasted, and they said it is difficult for them to move on without any of those answers.

Family members spoke to the press at the Miramar Police Department, Monday afternoon.

Bromfield was shot multiple times, around 3:40 a.m., on Aug. 3, and his brother, Bryan, found him on the family home’s lawn, along the 7100 block of Alhambra Blvd., in Miramar. His car was taken and later found abandoned near the house.

It is unclear if anything else was also taken in the process. “We believe it happened really quick,” said Miramar Police officer Hector Bertrand. “We don’t know if there was any altercation prior to the shooting.”

His family is now asking for the help of anyone who knows any information in this fatal shooting. “He’s not here with me,” said the victim’s mother, Monica Bromfield. “I can’t touch him. I can’t cook for him. I can’t wash his clothes anymore. He’s not in the house. It’s devastating. Please come forward.”

The victim’s cousin, Howard Rye, remembered the 24-year-old as a kind young man. “Gavin didn’t have a violent bone in his body,” Rye said. “To be taken away from us like this is very, very painful, very difficult.”

Detectives searched the perimeter around his house with a K-9 team, during the immediate investigation but came up empty-handed.

“It’s sad. I mean, no family member wants to wake up to such bad news,” said a friend of the victim.

Another friend of the family said Bromfield had a fun, loving demeanor. “Funny, goofy, never take anything serious,” she said. “That’s why I’m like, ‘Why?’ He doesn’t mix with the wrong people, so I’m over here like, what happened?”

People said they believe two people were involved. They said they do have video but have not released it as yet.

A reward for any valuable information has been raised to $8,000.

If you have any information on this shooting, call Broward County Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS. Remember, you can always remain anonymous, and you may be eligible for that $8,000 reward.
