NORTHWEST MIAMI-DADE, FLA. (WSVN) - An elderly man is in critical condition after he was struck by a car, police said, in Northwest Miami-Dade.

Just after 9 p.m., Tuesday, 81-year-old Tecean Phen was crossing Northwest Seventh Avenue heading eastbound, when he was struck heading northbound on Seventh Avenue.

Velma Royal saw the aftermath of the collision. “I don’t know, I don’t know,” said Royal. “Whatever happened, it happened so fast.”

Originally this story was reported as a hit and run. However, according to Miami-Dade Police, the driver stopped and remained at the scene.

Royal also stayed with Phen until police arrived. “It’s heartbreaking,” she said. “I just came from church, and God is a healer, so I’m just praying that God heals him, and for whoever hit him, that they come forward.”

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue transported the 81-year-old to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center where he remains in critical condition.

No charges or citations have been filed at this time.
