PEMBROKE PINES, FLA. (WSVN) - Police are searching for the person behind a shooting that, they said, caused a driver to veer off the road and crash into a tree in the middle of rush hour, Monday evening.
7Skyforce HD flew over the scene as officials tended to the injured driver. The accident occurred along Pembroke Road and Northwest 86th Avenue, between Douglas Road and University Drive, in Pembroke Pines, just before 6 p.m.
According to Pembroke Pines Police, the driver of a white Infiniti sedan slammed into a tree after he was shot by another motorist, causing the victim to veer off the westbound side of Pembroke Road.
Officials said the male victim, who is in his 20s, was shot multiple times before crashing.
Just on the other side of the wall where the driver ended up, neighbors were shocked by the accident. “It’s just crazy, because my nephew and my little brother, they were outside,” said Victoria, who lives near the scene of the crash.
“We heard a big boom,” said area resident Nehemiah.
“When we heard all the sirens, we all rushed outside to see what was going on,” said another resident who shot cellphone video of the vehicle moments after the driver was rushed to the hospital.
“It looked like his chest was bleeding, like, his shirt had blood on it,” said Victoria, “and the car, on the driver’s door, had blood dripping down on it.”
Paramedics placed the driver on a stretcher and transported him to Memorial Regional Hospital in serious condition.
One side of Pembroke Road remained shut down late into the night as officials continued to investigate the crash.
Investigators are searching for the driver responsible for opening fire on the Infiniti. They have not released the victim’s name.
