COOPER CITY, FLA. (WSVN) - A South Florida woman and her 4-year-old grandson are safe after their SUV fell into a sinkhole at a Cooper City McDonald’s, Thursday afternoon.
According to Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue, a 12-inch water main break created the hole near the drive-thru of the fast food restaurant, located at the Pine Lake Plaza, in the area of Griffin Road and Palm Avenue.
The woman, identified as Dolores Otero, said she thought it was just a puddle of water, until her Toyota SUV got stuck and started sinking. “The car kept on going slowly down and slowly down,” she said. “It was normal first, just a little drop, but then it [kept sinking], and it got bigger.”
Crews were able to pull the driver and her grandson to safety before capping the leak.
