ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — A central Florida man is accused of fatally shooting his wife and son early Sunday, sheriff’s officials said.

Orange County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a call about a shooting at 1:15 a.m. Sunday. At the home they discovered the bodies of 57-year-old Jodie Rivera and 21-year-old Matthew Rivera. Both had been shot.

Smith Rivera, 59, was charged with two counts of first-degree murder and one count of attempted first-degree murder, according to news outlets.

Sheriff’s officials said Smith Rivera told investigators he killed his wife and son. An arrest report said he also fired a gun at a third person who was able to get out of the house.

Jail records did not list a lawyer for Rivera.
