HOLLYWOOD, FLA. (WSVN) - A Cuban migrant faces charges after he allegedly assaulted law enforcement officials after making it to shore along Hollywood Beach, Saturday.
According to police, Lazaro Mora-Gutierrez had a machete and swung it at officers who tried to stop a boat he was on with several other migrants.
He faces assault charges.
The migrants have since been released from the hospital and are receiving help from at least two Doral refugee programs.
Officials told 7News the migrants will be able to stay after being released from the hospital and processed by U.S. Customs.
