CLERMONT, Fla. (AP) — Three people have been killed, including a 3-year-old child, in a crash involving two vehicles in Lake County.

The Florida Highway Patrol said in a statement that the crash happened Sunday afternoon near Howey-in-the-Hills.

Lake County emergency crews say 22-year-old James Walker, of Sanford, was driving when he lost control of his vehicle, crossed lanes and crashed into an SUV.

Officials say both Walker and the driver of the SUV, 56-year-old Debra Irwin of Montverde, died at the scene. Irwin’s granddaughter, Fallon Painter, who was riding with her at the time of the crash, was airlifted to a hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.

It is unclear what caused Walker to lose control of his vehicle.
