PEMBROKE PINES, FLA. (WSVN) - An investigation is underway after a burned body was found outside a Pembroke Pines craft store, Monday.

Police received a call just before 7 a.m. from a witness who arrived at work said a mannequin was on fire. However, when officials arrived, the gruesome discovery was made.

Charred bushes are all that remain of the scene. Pembroke Pines Crime Scene Investigators could be seen analyzing the area.

A white tarp covered what was described as a significantly burned possible victim, who was still on fire when firefighters arrived on scene of the west side of the Michael’s store, located just off Pines Boulevard.

The identity of the person is currently unknown. However, 7News has been told that the body is of a man between the ages of 18 and 30 years old. “We believe that he may either frequent the area, or may live in the area which is why were asking for assistance from the media as well as the community,” said Pembroke Pines Police Captain Al Xiques. “There’s no vehicle found here in this plaza early this morning.”

The discovery left shoppers shocked. “I think it’s a horrible thing to come out and see this early in the morning on the Fourth of July,” said Meeryl Dimperio. “Whoever’s there, whoever’s body — we don’t know who it is, but there’s family and friends.”

Multiple agencies are involved with the investigation. If you have any information on this crime, call Broward County Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS. Remember, you can always remain anonymous, and you may be eligible for a $3,000 reward.
