MIAMI SHORES, FLA. (WSVN) - A Miami Shores man came home on Friday to find his home ransacked and burglarized. Then, the following day, while he was home, the burglars used a spare key they had stolen to take his truck.

Eric Montes De Oca said the burglars took all the jewelry, watches and electronics from his home on Friday.

“The area was in disarray,” Montes De Oca said, “We’ve obviously cleaned it up since, and then I walked over through this area, which is the living room, and noticed that everything that was in our book shelves, our bar area was thrown out all over the floor.”

After spending Friday cleaning up the mess, he was finally able to relax Saturday. That’s when he was sitting on his couch, and he heard his truck starting up.

“I heard the vehicle start up in my driveway, and it was my truck, and I then discovered that they also stole my spare key to my truck,” Montes De Oca said, “and as I ran outside, I saw my truck peeling away in the alley.”

“I can’t express the levels of frustration,” he said. “I don’t feel safe because, I mean, it was back to back.”

On the same day, a man was caught on camera burglarizing a home not far from Montes De Oca’s house. The burglar calmly made his way throughout the house before noticing a surveillance camera and turning it against a wall.

He took off with jewelry and electronics. Police aren’t sure whether the two cases are related.

Miami Shores Police have made arrests in numerous cases in recent weeks. The mayor of Miami Shores was robbed and attacked in a shopping plaza. Another woman had her wedding ring stolen during an attack in the same plaza.

“There’s a crime spree that’s happening,” Montes De Oca said.

He believes the community needs to be alert and aware.

“We all need to look out for another, we need to help each other in our community,” Montes De Oca said.
