POMPANO BEACH, Fla. (WSVN) — One in six people in the United States don’t know where their next meal is coming from, but some people in South Florida are working to change that.

The Broward Sheriff’s Office and the Wayne Barton Study center teamed up to distribute free food to those in need at the grocery giveaway in Pompano Beach.

“We care about you. We’re here to support you. We’re not giving them a handout. We’re giving them a hand-up today,” Barton said.

The goal of the event is to enhance the health, welfare and education of the community through healthy eating.
