DEERFIELD BEACH, FLA. (WSVN) - The manager of a Deerfield Beach gas station was taken to the hospital after, authorities said, he was shot during a robbery, Monday night.
According to the Broward Sheriff’s Office, the robber entered the Mobil gas station on West Hillsboro Boulevard and Southwest 12th Avenue, at around 6 p.m. and demanded money. One employee ran out through the back and called for help.
Detectives said the suspect took off before deputies arrived at the scene.
The manager was transported to Broward Health North with injuries that were not life-threatening.
Island Norelus, a cashier at the gas station, said she didn’t get a good look at the gunman. “I was just working, and everything happened so fast,” she said. “I just noticed he got shot and everything happened so fast.”
Norelus’ sister-in-law said her relative called 911. “She didn’t really see much; she just heard the cry out for help, and she ran to the back, and she see the man pulling out the gun,” she said, “and she ran out of the store and called 911.”
Detectives said the armed robber is still on the run.
