MIRAMAR, FLA. (WSVN) - A Miami Beach Police officer found himself on the other side of the law after being accused of road rage while driving his patrol car.
Frank Celestre was arrested by the Broward Sheriff’s Office, which sources told 7News, had to do with a road rage incident back in May that happened on Interstate 75.
According to BSO, Celestre was in his police vehicle when he pointed his gun at another driver along the southbound lanes near Miramar Parkway.
Investigators said Celestre “…knowingly committed aggravated assault with a deadly weapon by pointing a firearm at the victim during a road rage incident.”
The victim told BSO that Celestre was driving recklessly, and when he looked his way to say something, Celestre “…flipped him the bird.”
When the driver looked back over, he “…noticed the driver pointing a weapon directly at him.”
Celestre, 55, has been charged with several offenses, which include aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
On Wednesday morning, Celestre appeared before a judge.
“Your bond on count one will be $20,000, no victim contact,” the judge said. “Good luck to you, sir. Stay in contact with your attorney and show up to all your court dates.”
He was granted bond and was released from jail.
Miami Beach Police responded to inquiries with the following statements: “On May 28, 2023, the Miami Beach Police Department was made aware of an incident involving one of our officers. The incident was immediately referred to the Broward County State Attorney’s Office for investigation, and the officer was relieved of duty. Our department takes this matter seriously and is fully cooperating with the investigating agency.”
