WESTON, FLA. (WSVN) - - A student athlete is recovering in the hospital after a wrestling match at a high school in Weston took a dangerous turn, sending him to the hospital.

The teen was competing in a wrestling competition at Cypress Bay High School on Friday when suffered some sort of head injury was airlifted to a nearby hospital.

Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue crews airlifted the patient to an area hospital.

According to fire rescue officials, the student was conscious while on the way to the hospital.

The teen was competing from a visiting team in the Battle of the Bays tri-county varsity wrestling event.

In a statement, a spokesperson for Broward County Public Schools wrote, “A student from one of the competing schools was injured and transported to a nearby hospital as a precaution.”

As of late Friday night, there has been no update on his condition.
