FORT LAUDERDALE, FLA. (WSVN) - A 22-year-old man who was armed with a gun died after being shot by three police officers in Fort Lauderdale.

Fort Lauderdale Police units arrived at the scene along the 300 block of Southwest 25th Avenue, Wednesday afternoon.

7Skyforce hovered over the scene, where police closed off several areas. SWAT teams were also at the scene.

According to police, they were responding to a call about a man having a mental health crisis.

“Dispatch received information that this male was inside of a home in the 300 block of Southwest 25th Avenue with a weapon and multiple family members, including a child,” said Fort Lauderdale Police Detective Ali Adamson.

Once officers arrived at the home, the man came out armed with a gun and ignored commands to drop his weapon, which prompted the officers to fire their weapons.

“He did not comply with those commands and was endangering officers as well as the community, and officers engaged him,” Adamson said.

Detectives said several family members were inside the home, including an infant child, when they called 911.

The man was transported to Broward Health Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries.

As of late Wednesday afternoon, investigators have not disclosed his identity.

The three officers are on paid administrative leave.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement has taken over the investigation, which is standard whenever there is a police-involved shooting.
